CHP Chemical Purchasing, Storage, and Dispensing

Purpose

The principal investigator or faculty supervisor is responsible for all access, storage and use of hazardous chemicals in the laboratory as defined by WSU’s labratory safety manual (Section II.B)

This section is to ensure knowledge and plan on how to receive and dispense hazardous materials and to ensure broken or leaking bottles aren’t accepted and stored without realizing it.

Required Sections

  • Purchasing – how your lab and area receives hazardous materials,  Trying to ensure your lab has a method to make sure damaged, leaking containers are not stored away without knowing it.
  • Approval process for any regulated or particularly dangerous/hazardous materials.
  • List of people responsible for learning and implementing proper chemical storage.
  • Dispensing – a general procedure for how chemicals are transferred from larger to smaller containers.
