What is the VPN?
A Virtual Private Network (VPN) is often used to provide increased security and privacy online by changing a public connection into a private one. IT maintains a VPN server for the Pullman campus. Connecting to this VPN allows us to access the network and browse as if we were present on campus.
If you are away from the Pullman campus and want to reach some department resource, you must connect to the VPN first. An example of such a resource is Chem-jukebox, the department file server. Again, if you are off campus, you must connect to the VPN before you can connect to jukebox.
A virtual private network (VPN) extends a private network across a public network, such as the Internet. It enables a computer or network-enabled device to send and receive data across shared or public networks as if it were directly connected to the private network.
