Fetch the Driver
- Connect to Chem-jukebox.
- Navigate to the Printer_Drivers > Canon > Mac.
- Open the Canon Drivers text file.
- Copy the URL to your web browser.
- On the imageRunner website, click Software & Drivers.
- Choose your Operating System and Version.
- If you don’t know which version of Mac OS you’re using, open System Preferences.
- The first line of the System Preferences window tells you which version of Mac OS you’re using.
- Available downloads will appear below. The file name will depend on which version of OS you are using, but the file name you are looking for should begin with PS_. Find this zip file and click Download.
- Once the download is complete, launch the Canon_PS_Installer.pkg install application.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete installation.
Add the Canon C5850
- Open System Settings.
- Use the search bar in the top left to search for Printer. When Printers & Scanners appears, select it.
- Click Add Printer, Scanner or Fax…
- In the Add Printer window, click the center icon that looks like a Globe.
- Complete the following fields:
- Address: 134.121.40.121
- Protocol: Line Printer Daemon – LPD
- Name: Give the printer a name (e.g., Chem Canon 305)
- In the Use field, choose Select Software… from the drop-down menu.
- In the Printer Software window, search for 5850.
- Select Canon iR-ADV C5840-5850 PS from the available options, then click OK.
- Double check that everything looks correct on the Add Printer window, then click Add.
- You will now be brought back to the Printers window. Click on the printer and select Printer Info…
- Enable Share this printer on the network, then click Option & Supplies…
- Enable:
- Department ID Management.
- Prioritize User Authentication.
- Secure Printing of Device.
- Switch to the Utility tab.
- Click Open Printer Utility.
- Complete the following fields in this order:
- Select Department ID Management from the User Management drop-down menu.
- Tick the Confirm Department ID/PIN When Printing.
- Enter the Department ID and PIN (you can find this at the printer in 305).
- Click Printer Information to save your settings and move to the next step.
- In the Printer Information window, click OK.
- Click Verify to confirm your credentials. If your information was not entered correctly, you will not be able to print.
- Click Save Settings.
Adding the “Hold” function
If you already have a “Hold” print option then you may ignore these steps entirely.
- Open a document and select File > Print or press Command+P.
- In the printing options page, find Printer Options and click it.
- Click Special Features.
- Select Hold from the Job Processing drop-down menu.
- Select Save Current Settings as Preset… from the Presets drop-down menu.
- Give the preset a name (e.g., Hold), then click OK.
