Teaching Assistant Safety Training

As a teaching assistant you will not only be responsible for helping students conducting their experiments, your most important task will be making sure they do it safely and help if any accidents do occur.

  • Make sure to attend or read carefully any safety information given out by the instructor or lab supervisor.
  • Read over the student safety contract to know what is expected of them.
  • Attend a department safety lecture by the department CHO; John Sullivan
  • Read and follow the TA safety contract
  • Discuss your position with the department’s IT department (chem.fulmerit.help@wsu.edu) and make you’re WSU e-mail is on the appropriate e-mail distribution, and check your e-mail regularly
  • Please also go through WSU Online Safety Courses and make sure to complete:
    • University Laboratory Safety – Analyzing Chemical Hazards
    • University Laboratory Safety – Working Safely
    • Hazard Communication
    • Personal Protective Equipment Fundamentals

Failure to follow proper department safety could jeopardize your position with department so please pay close attention to the requirements.  Safety training requirements are updated semi-annually so be sure to check back periodically to make sure you have no new requirements.
