Michael J. Martinez, PhD 2021 (Brozik Group)

The company was founded by James Brozik (CSO), Andrew Thompson (CEO), and James Clark (CFO) in 2018 and is based in Pullman and Cambridge (UK). SMi Systems is focused on the commercial design and manufacture of instruments, consumables, and software for biomedical research and regulated diagnostics.
Within SMi, Michael is focused on creating novel instrument designs and developing bespoke software and consumables needed to support SMi’s external research partnerships. He has travelled to the UK to maintain relationships with these partners and to ensure that instrument installations are successful. He also provides critical support for the UK productization teams.
Call for Information of Past WSU Faculty
Through the years, we have lost touch with a number of former faculty members from the Department of Chemistry. In our search, we have found that, unfortunately, WSU has little information on those faculty who have separated (retired, resigned, etc.) from the university. For example, there are no copies of CV’s for even very well-known former faculty like Glenn Crosby or Garner Stacy. With the loss of such records, it is also no easy task to generate an accurate list of who were faculty members in the past. Thus, we are launching an effort to establish an archive of past WSU chemistry faculty. This information might include years of service, accomplishments (a CV from their final years at WSU would be ideal), students mentored, classes taught, and/or other notable information. At this time, you—our alumni—are one of our only potential sources of this information. We are requesting your help to gather information regarding our past WSU chemistry faculty. Please send information by emailing or mailing Janelle Sordelet at janelle.sordelet@wsu.edu or Department of Chemistry, WSU, Pullman, WA 99164-4630. Thank you for helping us preserve the rich history of our department; we look forward to hearing from you.
If you want to share an update about yourself in our next newsletter, please email chem.grad@wsu.edu.
