Application Process

You apply through the Graduate School at Washington State University to be considered for graduate study in the Department of Chemistry.

  • Applications must be submitted by January 10​ to receive priority consideration for the upcoming Fall Semester.
  • Prospective students with prior research experience will be given priority consideration.
  • If space is available, applications submitted after January 10 and before June 30 may be considered for fall enrollment.

International students: Review information about admission requirements, as well as visas and fees and orientation.

Be prepared to submit the following items:

  1. A personal statement describing your motivations for graduate study towards a PhD, include your research area interests and which WSU faculty you would like to study with. Please include a description of previous jobs and research experience, if applicable.  Finally, include where you see yourself after earning your PhD.
  2. Curriculum Vitae (preferred) or resumé.
  3. Names and email addresses of three people who are willing to write letters of recommendation for you.
  4. Transcripts from each post-secondary school attended.
    Photocopies are acceptable for initial application review. Official transcripts are required for official admission to WSU.
  5. GRE General Test (optional).
    Self-reported/photocopies are acceptable for initial application review. Official scores are required for official admission to WSU.
  6. International students will need to meet English proficiency minimums: TOEFL 80 or IELTS 7.
