LocationChair: Ivan Popov

Biography

Iaroslav Gureev is a second-year graduate student in the Department of Chemistry at Washington State University, where he works in the research group of Dr. Ivan Popov. He earned his B.S. and M.S. degrees with honors in Chemistry from Lomonosov Moscow State University in Russia.

His research at WSU focuses on computational chemistry, with an emphasis on understanding chemical bonding and electronic structure in complex systems. In particular, he studies actinide-containing compounds and boron-based clusters, using quantum chemical methods to investigate their structure, stability, and reactivity. His work combines density functional theory calculations and associated bonding analysis techniques to gain insight into electron delocalization and unusual bonding patterns.

In addition to his research, Iaroslav mentors undergraduate researchers and participates in group meetings and scientific discussions, contributing to a collaborative research environment.
As a pastime, Iaroslav enjoys playing board games, taking walks, riding a bicycle, and engaging in winter sports like skiing and snowboarding.
