Connecting to Printers with OS X

  1. Open System Preferences, and open the Printers & Scanners application.

  2. Click on the plus (+) button in the lower left to add a new printer.

  3. OS X will default to Bonjour and show a list of available printers broadcasting via Bonjour. If the printer you want is listed, double click the printer name to add it. Otherwise click the IP button above the list of printers.

  4. An IP printer requires an IP address. To determine the IP address, go to the physical printer. Look for a piece of tape on the printer. That piece of tape should have a number on it in the form 999.999. Remember that number. At your computer, enter 134.121. followed by the number on the printer. All IP addresses at WSU Pullman begin with 134.121. The remaining octets identify your printer.

  5. OS X will query the printer for the name and location. OS X will choose an appropriate printer driver. Occasionally you should go to the manufacturer’s web site and download a more specific driver for your printer. Click Add.

  6. The printer is added to your list of available printers.
