Email

WSU provides email for all faculty, staff and students. Faculty and staff use WSU’s in-house Exchange server named Connect!. Students use WSU’s hosted email server at Office365. By June 2017 the Connect! server will be migrating onto the Office365 server.

WSU uses its email systems for official communication. You must read your University email regularly. Failing to read your University email or being ignorant of your University email account will not excuse you from responsibility. Ignorantia emailis non excusat.

Email for Students

An email account is created for you when you enroll at WSU. Your email’s password should be the same password as your network ID password (NID). To retrieve your initial account name and password, use IT’s instructions from email.wsu.edu/aboutoffice365.html

How do I activate my Office 365 e-mail account?

  • Visit MyWSU to get your new email name and temporary password. At MyWSU you need to add the One Time Password pagelet. This is found by clicking on “Content” at the top right and then adding the One Time Password pagelet. To activate your account, log into email.wsu.edu. Use your username and One Time Password that is shown in your MyWSU pagelet. When logging in for the first time you will need to provide some information and you will be forced to change your Office 365 email password. The new Office 365 password provided through MyWSU is temporary and should be changed.

Email for Faculty and Staff

An email account is available to you after your appointment start date. You must enable it.

  1. Create your Network ID if you don’t have one.

To read your WSU Connect! email, go to connect.wsu.edu. You can also connect a email client to your Connect! account. Fulmer IT recommends Microsoft Outlook and we have a procedure to connect Outlook to Connect! IT has information about the Connect! if you want to connect your own client.

When does my Email account end?

Student email addresses are permanent, the inbox itself is not permanent, but if you set up your email to forward to a different account then, you will continue to receive you email after graduation. The tutorial to forward your email can be seen linked here. The email inbox will expire after 30 days and will be automatically removed. If your wish to forward your email do it within 30 days of graduating.

Unfortunately faculty and staff emails do not remain after leaving. Faculty and staff email will remain active for 30 days after termination and will automatically be removed.

Can I run my own Email server?

No. Central IT forbids email servers on its network, other than those approved by IT.
